The PAX Playstation Blog Meetup

My friend Phil and I attended the Playstation Blog meetup today at Top Pot Donuts in Seattle.  According to Facebook, there were 96 people confirmed to attend…which is a lot to cram into a donut shop.  I didn’t do a headcount (can’t count that high anyway), but it looked like quite a few people showed up.  There were free donuts and coffee and I got to meet Jeff Rubenstein (Sony Social Media Manager and blogger).  They passed out swag bags which contained a PS coffee mug and shirt, however Phil and I arrived a little late and only got the mug, wanted the shirt, maybe next time.

It was good times overall!  They raffled off five vouchers for the PSN download Bionic Commando Rearmed, seven copies of WipEout Pulse for the PSP, and a PSP Core bundle.

They also held a PSP tournament where we were competing for a limited edition Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3.  Phil and I both entered…and Phil sucked.  But that’s okay. :)  There were four elimination rounds of 8 players.  The top two from each round went on to the final round.  During my round, I came in first by about 5-6 seconds.

However, in the finals, I didn’t win unfortunately, I was first place for a while, then got zapped and thrown back to fourth place.  Lame I say!  The finalists were able to keep their copy of WipEout Pulse which was a nice parting gift.

Overall, it was good times.  Cool to hang out with a bunch of Sony geeks and hope to do it again soon!

Eight Myths About Video Games Debunked

That’s the title of an essay written by Henry Jenkins, a professor at MIT.  It’s a good essay that points out a lot of eye opening information.  It’s a great message and a step in the right direction to redirect the aggression away from video games and back onto the things that truly impact negative and violent behavior in children.  Hit the jump for the essay…

NA LittleBigPlanet Boxart

Okay, remember way back when, when I announced the LBP boxart? Yeah, apparently that was just for Europe, as Kotaku noted, the pink and the suggestive lips were probably too risque for us here in the west.  Now they’ve announced the NA boxart…for really reals.  Like…for reals.  Hit the jump for loads of awesomeness and cuteness bundled together into the REAL boxart.

8bitculture.com’s 100th Post!

Hey everyone!  This marks the 100th post on 8bitculture.com!  Pretty exciting stuff!  Rather than announce or comment on any news related to gaming, I’d like to take a few minutes to talk about myself.

First and foremost, I want to apologize for the sporadic posting in the past few weeks.  When I’m not gaming, reading about games, or blogging about games, I test and support software for a small local software company.  My job generally consists of user acceptance testing (going through all of the steps a user might go through and ensuring that every action and result are expected) but I also have to support end users here and there.  It’s not a terrible gig, but definitely not my passion.  In any case, one of our corporate clients has been working with our developers on releasing a new product that has been eating up a lot of my time lately.

Chuck Norris Gets a New Game!

Wow, I love making titles for my posts that end with exclamation points, I must be easily excitable….

BUT SERIOUSLY!!!

Chuck Norris is getting his own mobile game called Chuck Norris:  Bring On The Pain.  It’s an awesome side scrolling beat-em-up game from the 80’s arcade era that brought us Double Dragon and TMNT.  Hit the jump for the trailer…cause it’s awesome.  He roundhouse kicks like 5 guys at once, then uses a car…A WHOLE CAR…to pound 3 or 4 more guys into oblivion!  /swoon Chuck Norris, you are my hero.

Halo Wars Box Art

Microsoft and Ensemble Studios have released the boxart for the much anticipated Halo RTS coming to the Xbox 360.  Three Spartans all the same color as Master Chief?  Does that mean three times the Halo fun?!?

D&D Tiny Adventures

Wizards of the Coast unleashed a new application on Facebook recently called Dungeons & Dragons: Tiny Adventures.  It’s a browser based game where you can choose a class, outfit your character and choose from a variety of adventures to go on.  Throughout the course of the game your hero will earn gold, experience, and loot.  The game includes a shop to buy and sell that is updated at random.  Finally, you can provide buffs and heal your friends that are playing as well!

The game had a rocky start with the game being down for the better part of 4 days or so and it’s still a bit intermittent, but it’s a good time waster.  Check it out!

Quest For Glory II Remade

AGD has recently released a remake of the classic adventure game Quest For Glory II.  One of the pivotal titles in one of the most influential (to me anyway) game series in history.  The best part of the release?  It’s free!  Click here to check it out and download it if you like, I’ll probably sink a few hours into it.
